Here fishy… fishy!?

I made this for mom to showcase to her kindergarden students for mandarin class.

I hoped to inspire the kids to make chinese lanterns and crafts for Chinese New Year for their parents.

Mom said the students did LOVE the fish. They kept saying ‘he is so cute.’ ha! kids are adorable. They wanted to take them home, but mom can’t let my crafts go. She has my drawings since I was in kindergarden.

Oh mom!

Happy Chinese New year all!! Hope you had a lot of good food and red envelopes.

Chinese New Year 2011

Chinese new year (aka chinese lunar year) is an important time each year to me. It an occasion where family and friends gather and eat really good chinese food. My family usually has hot pot and i get red envelopes (filled with money) What more can you ask for? good food? and money! my two favorite things :) just kidding….

This year chinese new year lands on Feburary 3 (2011).

“Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival”

Mom asked me to make a chinese lantern for her Kindergarden kids (as an ‘example’) for their craft that day. Since chinese new year and valentines day landed so close together i decided to combine it all into one.

With a little bit of time, elbow grease, red string, red paper and glue… i came out with this product.

Happy Chinese New Year Valentines Day all! May your days be filled with love, and chocolate and chinese food (without msg).

It didn’t take a lot of time to make. I think it was two commercials breaks.

Its hanging downstairs now.. mom keeps everything i make… also i can’t seem to part with my creations. They are so precious to me. Thats why im not sure if i could ever open a store and sell my art. AH

Maybe one day.. who knows
