Up close and personal (with nature)

Its the first weekend of May and boy it is gorg outside. OMG We put up 3 metal post in the back yard which holds a maximum of 10 bird feeders. We have 5 up right now.

I started working on attracting birds about a month ago when I bought my new SICK carbon fiber monopod (YES I said carbon fiber, not only is it light weight it absorbs vibration!!!)

The birds aren’t falling for my hidden motives yet.

So this weekend was dedicated to some flowers in bloom.

Equipment: Canon 20D
Lens: 50mm T1.8
Filters: Diopter +10 +4
Accessories: 1 spray bottle filled with water, 1 white sheet of paper as fill

Most of these photographs were shot with a 1.8 stop. I sprayed the flowers with my mister, so it looked like morning dew and I used a small fill (just a white 8×10 sheet of paper)

Jelly Lens adventure – part trois

I woke up this morning with the inspiration to take some close up photos. After spending the day at Paula taking photos of her flower and vegetable garden.. i was hooked. I wanted more.

The weather was hot and sticky yesterday but today is nice and cool… i was praying for DEW….

I got it :)

I hope you enjoy this set of photos, i had  much fun taking these pictures, ah, so exciting. I started my day off right, got off the right side of my bed, grabbed my camera and before my a cup of tea and breakfast i headed outside.

Jelly Lens adventure – part deux

After editing my jelly lens post i was inspired for more. I just snapped the jelly adhesive on my bare iphone (AH no case… lets hope this klutz doesn’t drop it) and took my flip flops and stepped outside.

We just stained our deck yesterday, after a week of stripping off the old stain, sanding and being covered in saw dust the results are amazing. Dew in the morning. Ah I never thought i would see that again. This was the start to my day.

Mom’s garden has some flowers in bloom and some just dying off for the year. I love both. There is so much character.

Their wardrobe is so outrageous. Could you imagine a girl wearing a purple dress with a green hat and a feathered scarf?  Flowers have no shame, they have no insight into how they look. They are beautiful no matter what color, what size, what texture they choose to be. They are simply.. simple. They are special in their own way. And (this is another lame quotes) but we need to “stop and smell the roses.” I know i DO, i don’t often appreciate natures beauty, and its right under my toes… ah

I should do a 365 daily project of jelly lens photos… oh if only time was on my side.

I may take some more… I love it! :)

Will you marry me?

My sweetheart proposed April 2 (no its not a joke) of this year. With a beautiful diamond ring from birks. Ah im in love… with the RING :)

I like to put my ring away sometimes and open it again. Each time im surprised at the beauty. I know that sounds lame. But I just get giddy and excited all over again.

View my beautiful ring.

Mama Chao’s garden – 2010

My moms garden is ever changing. This year we have a herb garden that I asked for. I think the amount of water and time involved in a tomato plant is… insane. It is cheaper to buy it at the supermarket. But hey who can complain about fresh herbs and vegetables right within reach.

Jelly Lens adventure – part un

What a great cheap invention.

Jelly Lens a plastic lens that has an adhesive jelly side that attaches to your camera or phone (in my case my iphone – 3g)

The outcome is wonderful and it is super easy to attach and snap. Usually I snap over 5 pictures per frame because the focus is so detailed it may look sharp on your small iphone screen but once you put it in iphoto it looks like mush.

I may take some more… I love it! :)

Mama Chao’s garden – 2009

Every morning, during the afternoon, in the evenings she is with her flowers. Id like to say she loves her flowers as much as her coffee (and her kids..) It is an escape for her. A way to get away from daily stress and burdens. Im always inspired to see her flowers. I love to draw and paint and take close up photos.

The garden changes on a yearly bases. She has many new breeds coming in from different countries.. also some flowers don’t survive the winter, so its important to capture the photos every year.

Her garden inspired me to paint a plate…
