Cute little Lotus
Found these adorable lotus roots sold in a glass jar at the chinese store. I probably won’t eat them but they are the CUTEST thing in the world. They are less then 1cm in diameter .

I took these 2 months ago, and JUST found them on my camera when I was uploading my ‘fall collection‘ photos for my newest site.
There it is my newest shots from my latest rig. More updates to come with colored gels on each bulb (total of 30 bulbs used). Shawn and I built the rig and shot some tests. Looks pretty interesting. The backdrop is just my deck. I wanted to shoot it in my garden.. maybe next time
Tell me what you think.
Its the first weekend of May and boy it is gorg outside. OMG We put up 3 metal post in the back yard which holds a maximum of 10 bird feeders. We have 5 up right now.
I started working on attracting birds about a month ago when I bought my new SICK carbon fiber monopod (YES I said carbon fiber, not only is it light weight it absorbs vibration!!!)
The birds aren’t falling for my hidden motives yet.
So this weekend was dedicated to some flowers in bloom.
Equipment: Canon 20D
Lens: 50mm T1.8
Filters: Diopter +10 +4
Accessories: 1 spray bottle filled with water, 1 white sheet of paper as fill
Most of these photographs were shot with a 1.8 stop. I sprayed the flowers with my mister, so it looked like morning dew and I used a small fill (just a white 8×10 sheet of paper)

I was planning on going up north this weekend for this, but I have been too pooped from work. So I took this right here in Mississauga on my front porch.
I took about 60 photos in highest quality + RAW. I found that thru the viewfinder the moon did look focused but when I downloaded the images it was a tad soft. I did this about 3 times just to double check it.
I used my canon 2.8 70-200mm lens set with stabilizer on and manual focus. I also used my new toy, my 2x extender which loses 2 stops.
Lens: 400mm (200mm with 2x extender)
Stop: Bracketed from f5.6 – f16
Shutter: Bracketed from 1/250 – 1/1000
ISO: 100
A few new ideas for this light graffiti photo day. I took these the same day as my northern lights photo (view them here)
We hung various lights on sashcore from the beams on the deck, and exposed 5 minutes, 2 minutes, 1 minute. I need to do a few more test and experiments until i find one i like. It is interesting.. next time i may try it with a person or an object.. It would look super cool.
Next i was reading about lighting steal wool and swinging it.. Well from my test, i learnt that you should have a UV filter on, or the flint may flies towards your lens and burn a chunk off. Believe me, I have the lens to prove it
My favorite 6.5mm wide angle is now a NICE paper weight.
It was fun. Sad but fun.
I still have to fine the right exposure for this type of exposure. It is a little bit difficult because the fire burns so bright and it is hard to predict where the flint lands… therefore your framing could be completely off…
BTW i do not use Photoshop to change any colors or crop any of my light graffiti photos. I believe it is what is is. I don’t like the idea of changing my work. I have been told that i could just simply do light graffiti with a paint brush on a black background.. but where is the fun in that. eesh
Enjoy! Hope i inspired some of y’all!

Wow what an amazing experience. I heard about the northern lights a few days after on the news. But i was there, watching this beautiful light show in the sky. It was hard to notice at first, the sky started dark green, then it changed to a brilliant emerald green.
We were outside shooting some long exposure experiments. They turned out well. Shawn noticed the northern lights first. I quickly made a 5 minute exposure to capture the brilliance colors. Wow, i can’t explain the feeling i had. I have never dreamed i would see this in.. Alliston of all places.
I made a few 7 minute exposures as well as 15 minutes. Nearing the end of the light show the exposures were longer, close to half an hour to 45 minutes. The lights were slowly dying off and a whisper of fog came in. That was it. About an hour long.

I love birds. I feel I have fallen in love with birds since I have been with Shawn. They are adorable little creatures with such personality.
They wake up quite early maybe around 5 or 6am i can hear them calling me from the window… all 100 of them.
I am awake…
I put on my 70-200mm lens (my new baby), and stood near there bird house and waited. The bluejays are out first thing, there is 2 of them in the area, but they don’t like fast movement. You have to gain their trust. Unfortunately i only took 1 photo of them from afar. Once they know you are they, they won’t come back until your gone.
The black hatch chickdees are adorable. They are tiny little buggers and so full of movement. I must have snapped over 200 photos of those birds alone and came out with 50 good ones.
YES i had a fast shutter speed and still could not catch them.
Every couple of minutes i stepped closer. And snaped about 2 photos per bird. First click they would flintch and second click they would fly away. It was unpredicatable where they would land, There were a couple of areas they enjoyed on the metal/wooden stand for the bird house. You had to be fast, i learnt that the 3rd day, i made a huge improvement.
* I love the little chickdees *
I realized i need to buy an 2x extender and not another expensive lens.
The woodpecker would come one in a while… i saw him about 3 times that week. There was a big one and a little baby one. They are beautiful. I love there red bed head

Here is a glimpse of the beautiful landscapes and waterscapes (?) i saw on my trip this past weeks. ah. I want to go back.
It is so beautiful there. I shouldn’t take credit for these photographs. Ah mother nature is amazing. Fall is amazing. Ah i wish i took more photos (yes 1200 was just not enough). Sometimes i realize my eyes are behind the eyepiece so often i forget to sit and just enjoy my surroundings. I find every New Years eve i am always looking for the best place to take photos and when the fireworks are set i am firing away (pardon the stupid pun).
I think i did enjoy this weekend. left my phone and my camera in the cabin a lot and enjoy wonderful meals with my sweetheart.

Here are some pictures of weathered knots up in Halliburton. Found on some trees and the dock near the cottage i was staying at. I usually do a big series of knots, or textures… but Haliburton is EYECANDY. So much to see. So much to take photos of. Its drugs for my brain…
STOP! (and enjoy the photos..)
